Why Should You Choose People?

Why Should You Choose People? Oh, how I love people! Well, not really. People are all very different and some can be quite difficult. 🙂 However, investing in people is one of the most important, if not THE most important thing you can do in your life.

I chose people many years ago and at many different moments in my life. Every since I was a little girl in kindergarten, I wanted to be a doctor. Medicine is a profession all about caring for people. I loved helping people and wasn’t afraid of the hospital, so I fell in love haha. Likewise, every children’s television show from Dora the Explorer to Dragon Tales depicted the main characters going completely out of their way, traveling to different worlds and crossing maps, just to help people. If all children’s shows seem to exemplify this same pattern, should it not occur to us that from a young age even society wants us to choose people.

In such a digital age, it is easy for us to sit behind a screen and get to “know” people, or stalk them. 🙂 We meet people by swiping right or requesting to view their profile online instead of physically speaking to them. We’ve all been in situations where we see people on social media and them in person and we are left completely awestruck in how technology can totally transform a person’s personality.

Fast forward about ten years later, I’m in high school and I choose to be a leader. I choose people. Engaging in powerful leadership experiences and escaping my comfort zone allowed me to be exposed to so many more people in my high school and in my community. Meeting all these different people changed my global perspectives and diversified my intentions in life. I became more grateful for what I had because I met those who had less than half of what I had. I became more accepting because I met those who had been through tragic situations at a young age and were changed forever by the mistakes of others. Choosing people breaks barriers.

Brother let me be your shelter

Never leave you all alone

I can be the one you call

When you’re low

Brother let me be your fortress

When the night winds are driving on

Be the one to light the way

Bring you home

Needtobreathe – “Brother”
No man is an island. We all enjoy alone time, I know I do, but it is in the times that we want to be the most secluded that we need to have people by us the most. Being open and honest makes it easier to approach people and have the confide in you. Nurturing strong relationships has been proven to benefit mental health and physical health. 🙂 Choose people.
