Coconut Oil has gotten really popular recently in the beauty world. Coconut Oil has a lot a great uses like being moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, and a mild treatment for hyper-pigmentation. Some people even use it on their hair as a moisture mask or on their face to remove makeup. While the uses of coconut oil are numerous, keep in mind that not all of these uses may be the best thing for you, and I will do a post soon about other alternative oils. For now, look into my favorite uses of coconut oil and see if you can add any of these into your daily beauty routine.
- Body Oil
- I like to use coconut oil after I get out of the shower and moisturize with my lotion. The oil serves as a both an additional moisturizing and a sealant to retain the moisture from my lotion. A little goes a long way with coconut oil so be careful not to go overboard, so you don’t go out looking like greased food ready for the fryer! 🙂
- Lip Balm
- After exfoliating my lips, I use coconut oil to moisturize my lips and make them soft. If you put in on your lips overnight, the next morning you will have very smooth and soft lips. I would recommend doing this at night only because it takes a while for the oil to get absorbed so you don’t want your lips to look oily.
- Makeup Remover
- On the weekend if I did my makeup really nice to go out for an event, I probably will have several layers of makeup, foundation, powder, concealer, etc. on my face. I want to get that all washed off and cleanse my skin and a makeup remover wipe probably won’t do me justice. So, I get a small amount of coconut oil and rub it on my face especially around my eyes (but careful to not get it in the eyes) to remove all the residue. Then, I follow-up with a cleansing brush and wash my face clean!
- Scalp Oil
- I usually wear my hair in braids so my scalp is usual exposed. In order to retain my hair length in a protective style, I try to ensure that my hair is not prone to breakage. One aspect of this is maintaining a well-moisturized scalp, so I rub coconut oil around my scalp and especially my edges before I go to bed. This helps to prevent breakage and dandruff formation on the scalp.
So those are my favorite ways to use coconut oil, and there are many more way to use it as well! Let me know how you incorporate coconut oil into your daily routine or tell me about other oils that you may use. Thanks for reading!
