Hey guys, life has been really crazy, but I’m back with a medical tag! This blog will finally come together guys lol, be patient with me, I need to get a real camera because uploading pics from my phone is annoying, especially since I don’t have an iPhone… I have been tagged in the medical tag a few times actually, but for some reason I have never completed it, thanks to my homegirls Trisha (threethousandmilesblog) and Meghan (meghaninmedicine) for reminding me and re-tagging me, here goes nothing!

Who are you and where do you study?

I am Angela and I am a medical student in the midwest!

When did you start studying medicine or pre-med courses?

In high school, I attended a biosciences and medicine academy which was my first exposure to pre-med courses. I took a lot of AP science and math courses, and over the summer I took dual enrollment classes in science and math as well!

What made you choose the medical field?

I have always loved medicine, my mom is a nurse, and quite a few people in my family are in the medical field. I have always excelled in science and math, and loved helping people and volunteering in my community. Medicine just seemed to be the best combination of these interests for me, and I have never had a doubt in my mind since.

How did you come up with your blog name/username?

I had a different blog name before this one, but I decided I wanted to stay professional but also be transparent. I am a medical student and not a doctor, so I thought “studentdoctorangela” would be a good title for now. Then, when I graduate I could take off the student part lol. I wish I could have thought of something more creative, but names and things like that are just not my forte.

How would you describe your blog?

My blog is a compilation of things that are important to me and I would like to share with others. All my life, I have always wanted to have a blog and now I think I have reached a point in my life where I could create one and use it creatively and to my professional advantage. My blog is an avenue to create, grow, inspire, and network. I love all the collabs I have been able to do with my favorite healthcare media friends and I am looking forward to what more I can accomplish!

What’s your favorite quote?

I LOVE quotes, so I have several.

“declare the win, and you have already won”

“life is tough my darling, but so are you”

“nothing will work, unless you do”

“positive mind, positive vibes, positive life”

I feel like people don’t listen to anything I say because I am so young. They undermine me because I am a female. I am overlooked because I am a minority. In life, it seems like everyone is ignoring you and your hustle, but what they can’t ignore is your success or your story. So much of what happens in life is not the physical, social, or economic battles, I strongly believe that 90% of what we deal with in life is mental. LIFE is a huge mental battle, you have to be mentally strong and firm to be successful in life and ride the waves as they come. That is where a lot of people get thrown off, wasting days in confusion, or even years of their life. The hardest part is getting there, getting mentally strong. Now I’ll get off my soap box before this post gets any longer, but yes quotes are everything. I use quotes to remind myself that every day is only as bad as you make it and you can choose to see good is every terrible situation.

Best memory in medical school?

Well, I’m still in medical school, so maybe I can tell you guys in a few years!

What’s the one course you struggled with?

lmao, honey, I’ll let you know when I can come up with just one

What’s your favorite book?

I’m not really much of a reader but…I’ll say the bible because it’s only thing I can read every single day.

What do you do in your free time?

EAT, lol. Yes, I eat to survive but I also eat for leisure, a lot of people have a hard time grasping this concept but I’m sure all my true foodies out there understand! I watch YouTube videos, some people have netflix, hulu, etc. but I watch youtube, it’s FREE and also best thing ever for catching up on all my favorite vloggers, beauty hauls, Nigerian movies, and music. Go shopping, even though 99% of the time, I am broke, but I love to window shop and add to my list of things to buy when I am finally a doctor, lol. Clean my apartment, organize, because y’all know organization is everything. My life is pretty uneventful lol, but when I do it, it seems fun.

What do you want to major or specialize in?

99.9% DERMATOLOGY – “this could change, you don’t really know what you want to do yet” – *sighs* people have knocked this dream for years, I believe you should do whatever you would wake up in the middle of the night with joy to do so…yeah, follow your heart, haters gonna hate

[ also have interests in emergency medicine, family/internal medicine, radiation oncology, ophthalmology, ortho?? – lol I still have time ]

Who do you look up to?

Anyone who worked hard to achieve their dream, slaves to perfection, and those who never aimed for anything less than their best. I admire those who came from nothing to something, the hustle is beautiful, the grind is passion.

How do you study (productively)?

MINIMIZE ALL DISTRACTIONS. Trust me guys, I have tried it all, this is the only way to study. No TV. No phone. No videos. No “study with me’s”. Not anything. I also motivate my self by eating during study breaks, but you know food is basically my motivation lol, so whatever works for you.

How do you stay motivated in medical school?

Girl, remember your grind. Everyone is working toward something in life, I get so annoyed when people say there are easier ways to make money outside of medicine. 1) your sole motivation to do anything in life should not be money 2) what is “easy” to accomplish in life is relative to anyone 3) I have never heard anyone talk about their career and reference as “easy money – – – –

PSA: sweetheart nothing in life is easy, and success does not come easy, the sooner you realize that, you will become more content with everything you have worked for, and life will come full circle for you in regards to your purpose 🙂

lol, take it from me, I have read a lot of self-help books 🙂

What are your best tips for future medical school students?

  • get a life – outside of medicine – you will seriously regret it if you don’t, lol find one, make one
  • work hard – it will pay off – worry about being the best you can be everyday
  • the competition is real – not every who wants to be a doctor is really trying to help people (for some reason people hide this and it makes trusting people in your class very difficult)
    • there are some genuinely nice people in medical school, but EVERY medical school in every class has some people who are in medicine for the wrong reasons, these people are overly competitive with their classmates, they will sabotage others, and they are looking out to ruin other people’s careers
      • yes, this sounds scary and it is, it is also very true – I WISH someone would have told me about this before I entered medical school but for some reason people like to keep this under wraps
        • lol I am spilling some very serious tea here, so please get some sugar and be quenched
        • lmao I need to stop this post is ridiculously long
